DVI Extender via LWL / Fibre-optics

Remote computer access in real-time from up to 10,000m away

KVM extenders with lightwave (LWL) technology extend the distance possible between the computer and the user to up to 10,000m by means of LWL cabling. Extenders consist of a sender and a receiver.

The sender first converts the monitor, mouse and cable signal of the computer so that a network-independent LWL cable can be used to bridge the distance of up to 10,000m. The receiver then again separates the signals into monitor, mouse and keyboard.

By simultaneously using professional KVM switching systems it is possible, for example, to manage entire server rooms in a separate building from the administrator’s office workstation.

The following signals can be transmitted:

VGA (Monitor), alternatively DVI
PS/2 or USB (for keyboard and mouse)
Audio
RS232

Possible uses:

For day-to-day office use, the spatial separation of operators/users and computers makes it possible to substantially reduce the noise (and heat) at individual desks. This makes it possible to achieve higher levels of concentration when working (particularly in open plan offices).

In industrial environments the remote operator/user can have access in a quiet environment (e.g. in the office) to the computer or computers in the production area. The increased level of concentration reduces errors.

In shopping centres, it is possible for an information terminal’s actual computer to be installed in an enclosed, secure room away from the point-of-sale.

For medical technology, a computer can, for example, be installed outside the sterile operating theatre.
